KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) — The Dewan Rakyat today rejected a motion to cut Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein’s salary by RM10.
The motion was tabled by Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Serdang), citing the ministry’s failure to fulfill its promise of building six Chinese primary schools as the reason.
In winding-up the debate on the motion, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the government viewed the issue very seriously and would carry out the projects in stages within the constraints of the law to ensure that they would be expedited.
“It is true that we had announced on Jan 30 to build Chinese primary schools, among others, in Bukit Serdang, Serdang; Sungai Long, Kajang; and the Emerald, Rawang.
“At this stage, we are taking follow-up action after getting the government’s full support and commitment because the process of building the schools is not easy as it entails identifying suitable sites and acquiring them,” he said.
The sitting resumes Thursday.
