[NST] DEWAN RAKYAT: Tajuddin’s words cause chaos again

27 11 2008

A MOTION to dock RM10 from Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s salary turned into a shouting match, with a Barisan Nasional backbencher using unparliamentary language against his opposition counterparts.

During the debate on a motion by Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Serdang) to cut the minister’s pay for failing to fulfil his promises regarding vernacular schools, Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (BN-Pasir Salak) used offensive words on M. Kulasegaran (DAP-Ipoh Barat) and Azmin Ali (PKR-Gombak).

He shouted at Kulasegaran when opposition MPs protested against remarks by Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (BN-Bintulu) regarding a proposal to ban the sale of alcohol in Selangor.

Pandemonium broke loose, with the opposition demanding that Tajuddin withdraw his words.

Azmin voiced his displeasure to the chair, saying this was not the first time Tajuddin had used offensive words.

“He is always using disrespectful words and yet no action had been taken against him,” he said in reference to Tajuddin calling Kulasegaran “b*****d” earlier this month.

THE delay in the construction of Chinese and Tamil schools has been because of problems in land acquisition.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong added that there were also the location to work out and the need to plan for the intake of schoolchildren.

He said this in his reply to a motion by Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Serdang) to cut RM10 from the Education Minister’s salary. The motion was rejected by the House after a lengthy debate.

In her motion, Teo said Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein had failed to deliver on his promise in January that the ministry would build six new Chinese schools in Wangsa Maju, Bukit Serdang, Rawang and Danga Bay.

27 11 2008

[Bernama] Usul Potong Gaji RM10 Menteri Pelajaran

27 11 2008

Persidangan Dewan disambung Khamis.

[Bernama] Motion to cut Education Minister’s salary

27 11 2008

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) — The Dewan Rakyat today rejected a motion to cut Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein’s salary by RM10.

The motion was tabled by Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Serdang), citing the ministry’s failure to fulfill its promise of building six Chinese primary schools as the reason.

In winding-up the debate on the motion, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the government viewed the issue very seriously and would carry out the projects in stages within the constraints of the law to ensure that they would be expedited.

“It is true that we had announced on Jan 30 to build Chinese primary schools, among others, in Bukit Serdang, Serdang; Sungai Long, Kajang; and the Emerald, Rawang.

“At this stage, we are taking follow-up action after getting the government’s full support and commitment because the process of building the schools is not easy as it entails identifying suitable sites and acquiring them,” he said.

The sitting resumes Thursday.
