RM100mil commission yearly

POS Malaysia earned about RM100mil in commission annually for the past five years from being the bill collection agency for various government departments.

Deputy Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum told the Dewan Rakyat during Question Time that the RM100mil were from 160 government agencies.

Of this, RM50mil was from utility transactions and RM30mil from Amanah Saham Nasional transactions.

A further RM13mil was derived from Road Transport Department transactions while the remaining RM7mil was from bill payments such as mobile phone and Astro.

Kurup is still Pensiangan MP

TAN Sri Joseph Kurup, who is also Deputy Rural Development Minister, is still Pensiangan MP pending his appeal against the Election Court decision last month.

“I called him to inform him that he can still attend the Parliament sitting,” Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said.

Kurup was present on Monday.

The court had declared vacant the seat which Kurup, who is Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah president, had won uncontested.

Over 7,700 disabled have work

A TOTAL of 7,180 disabled people are being employed by the private sector and 581 by the public sector till August this year, Women, Family and Community Develop-ment Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen said.

She told Teo Nie Ching (DAP — Serdang) that among the facilities for the disabled were a one-off grant of RM2,700 to encourage them to set up a small business.
