KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) — The Kajang Utama/Kajang Sentral tunnel construction crossing the Kajang SILK Highway is estimated to cost RM25 million, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said the ministry was still waiting for the fund to build the tunnel.
“The ministry has reapplied for the fund under the mid-term review of the Ninth Malaysia Plan,” he said in reply to Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Serdang) who wanted to know the reason for the delay in the tunnel’s construction.
He said the Kajang SILK Highway was to overcome traffic congestion in Kajang and surrounding areas like Balakong, Semenyih, Bangi, Sungai Long and Sungai Chua.
It was also to ease traffic movement to Putrajaya Cheras, Semenyih, Sungai Long and Bangi.
Mohd Zin said a new parallel road leading to Kajang would also be built using the “open toll” system.
