[The Star] How a Bill becomes law

28 04 2008

LAWS are said to be made to maintain a well-regulated society and a reflection of social mores and thinking.

As such, laws will change over time and must change to keep with changes.

While Malaysian laws are generally made or amended based on local issues or problems, these days, changes to existing laws or pressure to make new law can be dictated by foreigners or because of what happens elsewhere.

The initiative for a new piece of legislation or amendment to an old law here can come from the Cabinet, the relevant Ministries, special interest groups, the Attorney-General’s Chambers, the United Nations and foreign trade partners.

[Berita Harian] Parlimen menanti debat menarik

27 04 2008

All MPs should be put under the same microscope

22 04 2008

I was being referred to a blog entry entitled “The height of irresponsibility! 29 MPs did not submit parliamentary questions!” and was stunned to find out that among the 29 MPs who did not submit their questions for the coming parliamentary sitting, 5 are from DAP and 9 are from PKR.

It was a relief to find out that Sdr Kit Siang has immediately posted an apology on his blog.

I sincerely believe that these 14 PR MPs did not commit the mistake intentionally. But, as Sdr Kit Siang mentioned in his blog, work pressures as new elected representatives, lack of experience with parliamentary standing orders and breakdown of communications are not acceptable excuses.

Nevertheless, from the responses left by the readers, I noticed that many of the readers were very forgiving and lenient towards the new MPs. I wish to thank those readers.

Don’t call me YB! n_n

22 04 2008

Teo Nie Ching is my name given by dad.

“Nian Nian” is my nickname as a child, family and close friends call me that.

Friends who are less closer normally call me Nie Ching. When I became a lawyer, people call me councilor Teo.

During GE campaign, people call me cili padi. I like this nickname as it brings me closer to the voters.

Now I have one more title – YB Teo.
